Breakfast in Bed

A very traditional but wonderful way to pamper Mom is to serve breakfast in bed. It is a meal that is easy to prepare and children can get involved to help kick off Mom's special day.

•  In order to prepare a successful breakfast in bed for Mom, keep the menu simple and plan ahead. You don't want Mom to have to wait around in bed all morning for breakfast to be ready. Breakfast items like eggs and pancakes are quick and easy to prepare. You will want to give yourself a little extra time if you are planning on making muffins or an omelet.

•  Remember to serve the things she loves and make a point of showing her that you are thinking about her when you are preparing the meal. For example, if Mom likes to drink coffee, why not go out and buy some gourmet coffee to make for her breakfast in bed.

•  Put some extra care into the presentation of the breakfast. Even if you are not the greatest cook, the effort will go a long way. If you are serving eggs or pancakes, cut some exotic fruit to display on the plate. It will be an extra treat for Mom and the colours will make the dish look incredibly appetizing. Also place any freshly picked flowers or cards on the tray as well.

•  Keep in mind that the breakfast does not have to take place in bed to be enjoyed by Mom. Simply let her know that she will not lift a finger. Prepare everything and she can just sit and enjoy it. To put a twist on things, create a menu with options that you can prepare for her and then she can choose exactly what she wants.

•  Even if you are preparing the breakfast outside of bed, set the table with extra care at her place with everything she will need as well as flowers, Mother's Day cards, etc.

•  The most important thing to remember is to make sure Mom doesn't have to do anything to clean up from the breakfast. Make sure all of the dishes are washed and put away. This is the one thing that you do not have to worry about when you take Mom out for brunch, but a homemade breakfast is a simple gesture that Mom's love. And why wouldn't they? Cooking for someone is often considered an expression of love and care.
