Easter Home Decorating

Create a fresh look in your home this Easter. These spring decorating ideas will help you get started.

•  Use fresh whites and pastel shades like green, pink, yellow, blue, and lilac in your table settings and home accents.

•  For your Easter meal, decorate your table in Easter colours and decorations. White tablecloths with pastel coloured napkins or placemats. You can place your decorated eggs in a bowl or platter for your centerpiece. If you are considering using place names, try attaching name tags to a fresh cut flower with ribbon.

•  Spring is the perfect time to use fresh flower arrangements in your home. During Easter tulips and lilies are common choices but any flowers that incorporate the colours you are using in your home décor for Easter will work well.

•  An alternative to usual vase arrangements can be achieved by creating a spring arrangement in a decorated vase or box. For vases, you can use inexpensive glass vases or jars and decorate them with spring designs or Easter symbols using paints that will adhere to a glass surface. For the flower boxes you can use fruit baskets or any square or rectangular box that is sturdy and can be painted or decorated. First paint the box in Easter or spring colours. When the base colour dries, you can paint on images like flowers, bunnies, eggs, birds, or you can glue on items like ribbons, shapes cut out of coloured paper, or pictures. Inside the box, glue two to three empty tins or small glass jars, evenly spaced, to the bottom of the box. After the box is completed, these containers will be filled with water and hold the fresh flowers, so the containers should not be much higher than the outside edge of the box. To hide the tins or jars, place artificial grass or coloured tissue paper and fill the empty spaces in between the containers. Finally, place your cut flowers into the glass tins or jars with water.

•  Easter baskets filled with decorated eggs are also great decorations that are easy to make and children can help. Any basket will do but for something more festive, you can buy Easter coloured baskets. Fill the baskets with coloured tissue or the coloured plastic cuttings that you can find in craft stores. Arrange decorated eggs on top of whatever you use for the basket filler. You can also include flowers, small chocolate bunnies and candy for this arrangement.
