Easter Egg Decorating

Egg Decorating Ideas

Making your own Easter eggs is a fun way to celebrate Easter and they make a great decoration for your home over the Easter holiday. Start a tradition with your family and take time every year to decorate eggs with your family. Here we have provided a few ideas and methods of egg decorating to help you out.

Lenox Opal Innocence Crystal Bowl

•  For easy egg decorating you can use hard-boiled eggs and food colouring for the dye. The food colouring can be applied to the egg with paintbrushes, cotton balls or q-tips. Extra designs can be added to the eggs by gluing coloured yarn, sparkles or adding stickers.

•  You can also decorate eggs with acrylic paint. Using paints gives you more options for colours. When using acrylic paint compared to food colouring, it takes longer to dry so it is a good idea to use a stand so that you can paint one half at a time. A stand can be easily made out of part of a paper towel tube cut to about three to four inches high. These stands can also be decorated and used to display the eggs after.

•  Instead of using hard-boiled eggs you can hollow out the egg by making holes in either end of the egg. You can make the holes with pins, putting a larger hole in one end. Over a bowl, blow through the small hole to force the egg out of the shell through the larger hole. Once all the egg has been forced out rinse the inside of the egg by running water through the hole being careful not to break the egg.

•  Hollow decorated eggs can be used to make an egg tree. You can place a branch that has a tree shape into a small pot, filling it with soil or coloured stones to keep the branch from falling over. Attach your hollow, decorated eggs with ribbon to the branches. This is a great craft for children to do and it can be their contribution to the family Easter dinner by using it as the centerpiece.

•  Be creative with your decorating tools. There are many household items that are useful for decorating eggs. If you are dying your eggs, try placing rubber bands on the egg first. When you take the rubber bands off after the egg is dyed you will be left with stripes. A similar effect can be achieved by using cut out shapes of masking tape. After the egg is dyed, peel off the tape and you will see the shapes printed on the egg. If you are using acrylic paint you can use the end of a pencil eraser to make polka dots with paint, or you can use toothpicks to make more detailed designs.

This Easter plan a day or activity to celebrate tradition. Easter egg hunts are fun for people of all ages to participate in and can be held with either a large or small group of people.

  • Easter egg hunts can be a lot of fun with a large group of people. Plan an Easter egg hunt as an activity everyone can enjoy before or after your Easter meal. Another idea is to hold an Easter egg hunt on a day close to Easter and host a small springtime party to go along with it. For the hunt, use either plastic eggs or chocolate eggs wrapped in foil. Hide the eggs throughout your yard or house. If you have a lot of people participating, holding the Easter egg hunt outdoors is a good idea. Keep in mind that if young children are participating as well, there should be some easier to find eggs for them. You can have prizes for those who find the most eggs or you can have prizes that correspond to the colour of the egg that is found. Another option is to separate the party into two teams, who hide eggs for the other team to find. The team that finds all of the eggs first wins. If you are hosting this Easter egg hunt on a day close to Easter, set up a table in your yard with munchies and refreshments for participators and observers to enjoy.
  • Easter egg hunts are also fun for your children to partake in first thing Easter morning. After they go to bed the night before, hide presents throughout the house. At the foot of their bed place an Easter basket holding a clue on where to find the first prize. When they find the first prize there will be another clue for them to find the second prize and so on. At the end, you can all sit down for a nice family breakfast.
